Ägelsee Lake

Raclette in a venerable cellar

The village of  Diemtigen can be reached by car, or on foot from the Oey-Diemtigen railway station. The view of the village alone is worth the trip. It was awarded the Wakker Prize by the Swiss Heritage Society in 1986. Anyone who wants to really experience the natural world in winter should walk another half-hour to  Diemtigbergli, where the restaurant with the same name provides an ideal stopover with food and drink. From here, it’s another kilometre or so to the Ägelsee Lake. Depending on the amount of snow and the time of year, it can be possible to circumnavigate the lake.

You can then follow the same path back to the village of  Diemtigen. Approaching the end of the village from above, you will find the “Styg” organic farm in the venerable farmhouse dating back to the 17th century. The Küng family have set up a cellar room there for tasteful celebrations and as a cosy hiking destination for groups. During the summer, Sabine and Peter Küng produce wonderful alpine cheese and Alpraclette cheese on the Selbezenweid Alp, which is offered here together with their own side dishes from the field and the garden, which are served "bis gnue”.
